Centre for Optimisation and Its Applications
The Centre for Optimisation and Its Applications at Cardiff University is an interdisciplinary centre which encourages joint research and applied projects among members of the Schools of Mathematics, Computer Science and Business and Manufacturing Engineering Centre. It also encourages increased awareness of the rapidly growing field of optimisation through publications, conferences, joint research and student exchange. The director of the Centre is Professor Anatoly Zhigljavsky from the School of Mathematics.
The Centre for Optimisation and Its Applications will bring together a unique mix of internationally recognised expertise in theoretical and applied optimisation, including stochastic, global, convex, quadratic, multicriteria and discrete optimisation as well as in a number of applied areas including optimal experimental design, time series analysis and forecasting, mechanical engineering, image processing, bioinformatics and marketing research.
Current applied projects include applications in optimal experimental design, marketing research, health economics, clinical trials and data mining. Sponsors include CNRS (France), ACNielsen BASES, Quintiles and GlaxoSmithKline.
The centre will be interested in promoting collaboration with researchers at other universities through visitors and organisation of workshops.
